Want to be a Lawyer? Are you sure???

BUT You need to understand that it will be VERY difficult. IF YOU ARE SURE THEN … That’s O.K. 

If you have interrupted schooling or very little English are you ready to study for up to 20 years to become a lawyer? The Enter Score for University to be a LAWYER is 99%. This is VERY difficult. AND 20 years or more is TOO long!!!!! HELP!!! I need a DOCTOR!!!

How can I help you today? I’m tired doctor. 20 years or more is TOO long to study to be a lawyer. What can I do? Stop worrying right now. I can help you. There are MANY courses you can do if you like LAW. REALLY! THANK YOU DOCTOR!!!

Think about this: Usually because They are interested in LAW They believe that following the LAW is important and They like to HELP people. Why do people become LAWYERS???

And think about this too Most students who have grown up in Australia CANNOT be Lawyers either. The T.E.R. score of 99% too difficult for most students.

So let’s think again about OTHER good jobs in the area of LAW

Here are some interesting jobs you could study for at TAFE if you are interested in the LAW. 1.Administrative Assistant I want to talk to a LAWYER!!! Good morning! How can I help you?

3. Customs Officer Every day many people come to Australia from other countries. They don’t always know what they can bring into Australia. I can help with this. WOOF Me too!!

4. Law Clerk (Helps the Lawyer) I need those papers you were working on for me. Are they ready yet? Yes they are. I finished them yesterday.

5. Joining the Army, Navy or Airforce ARMY NAVY AIRFORCE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE LAWS OF AUSTRALIA, YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN AUSTRALIA’S DEFENCE FORCES.

6. Legal Secretary A legal secretary works very closely with the lawyer.

7. Australian or Victorian Public Servant If you study hard and your English is good, you can work for the government, especially in MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRS.

8. Keyboard Operator/word processor for Law Companies Take the time to learn to TYPE. This skill can get you many good jobs.

9. Police Officer Victoria Police needs people from Asia and Africa.

10. Accounts Clerk I like working with numbers SOMETIME S!

11. Welfare/Community Worker The people in your community need a lot of help to understand Australia’s laws. You can get a job that will help them.

12. Security Officer There are many types of security officer. This one works at the airport.

These are just SOME of the jobs you can think about if you are interested in LAW. There are many, many others that are also very good and very interesting.

Can I Get These Jobs? Yes you can! How? Let’s look!!

2. Probation Officer – Works with people who have been in trouble with the POLICE. For this job, a University Degree is usually needed. HOWEVER, if you are a new arrival to Australia and speak more than one language, it is often easier to study for jobs like PROBATION OFFICER. These are the most important things you need to do before you start. Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE Ask your TAFE College about what you should do next. A University degree is not always necessary.

Certificate 4 in Government - Border Protection 3. Customs Officer Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE

4. Law Clerk (Helps the Lawyer) Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE Certificate III in Business - Legal Administration Certificate IV in Business - Legal Services

5. Joining the Army, Air force or Navy All Corps Certificate 4 in Business (Frontline Management) Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE

6. Legal Secretary Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE Complete Business Skills (Training Program) at TAFE Certificate 1 in Business Certificate 2 in Business Certificate 3 in Business - Administration And don’t forget to do EVERTHING you can to improve your TYPING SKILLS – VERY important!

7. Australian or Victorian Public Servant Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE There are many different ways to get a job in the Public Service – that means working for the Government. But, the most important thing is GOOD ENGLISH – Both written and spoken. Therefore, follow these usual steps. Talk with your TAFE college about possible jobs as a Public Servant. There are MANY and they all require different skills.

8. Keyboard Operator/word processor for Law Companies Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE Do a Keyboarding Skills Course At the same time it is also good to study other courses in Information Technology.

9. POLICE OFFICER Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE Talk to your TAFE College about different Certificates and BRIDGING COURSES you can do which will help you to study towards your ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF JUSTICE. This Diploma is not easy, but remember, Victoria and Australia DO want Police Officers from Africa and Asia and BRIDGING COURSES are available to help you succeed.

10. Accounts Clerk Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Complete Certificate 4 in English (or equivalent/similar) at TAFE Book-keeping Training Program Certificate 1 in Financial Services Certificate 2 in Financial Services Certificate 3 in Financial Services Certificate 4 in Financial Services

11. Welfare/Community Worker Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Certificate 4 or equivalent / similar in English Certificate 4 in Community Services Work

12. Security Officer Study English Language at Language School, Secondary School, AMES or TAFE Certificate 4 or equivalent / similar in English Certificate 2 in Security Operations Certificate 3 in Security Operations

Be Flexible! Remember, there are many different ways to be successful. Good Luck! Also remember that GOOD ENGLISH is the starting point for success in ALL these jobs. Therefore, don’t be in a big hurry to start a course. Make sure your English is good enough first.
