Why is St Patrick’s Day a special event? St Patrick's Day is a special event because it celebrates Saint Patrick who lived from 385– 461 and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

When and where is St Patrick’s Day celebrated?  St Patrick's Day is celebrated on the 17 th of March each year. This is the day of St Patrick’s death.  People celebrate St Patrick's Day in Ireland, Australia, Canada, Britain, the United States, New Zealand and Argentina.  St Patricks Day is a public holiday in Ireland.

What do people do on St Patrick's day? In Ireland people go to church services and wear green clothes. There are public parades and processions, and the lifting of Lenten promises on eating and drinking alcohol.

Clothes and Food Many people wear green clothing on this day. They have parties featuring Irish foods and drinks that are dyed green with green food colouring. Adults go to pubs and drink Guinness, an Irish beer.

Singing and Music On St Patrick’s Day people like to sing traditional Irish songs, accompanied by Irish music played on Irish instruments such as the accordion and the fiddle. Irish people love to sing and dance.
