Progress to date:  Commenced in 2007  Emphasis – a very broad range of VET courses  VET enrolments 2009: 180  Projected VET enrolments 2010: 354  A shared enrolment model is used for VET in 2009 (FFS in previous years)  Number of TAFE Taster students 2009: 240  Projected TAFE Taster numbers 2010: 231  GOTAFE and Wangaratta High School are partners in the establishment and future development of the TEC – a unique relationship  The TEC was based at Wangaratta High School’s Vincent Road campus in

 Wangaratta HS students undertake a full time program in 2009 (also part timers in 2011)  Other students will attend 1 day pw in 2010  Students do either the VCE or VCAL  All students do a SWL placement and/or ASBA  Students from other schools (Galen Catholic College, Cathedral College & Benalla College) and GOTAFE will be involved in 2010  A new TEC building opens at GOTAFE in January 2010 ($8m) – open plan  Other facilities have been developed at GOTAFE in response to TEC student demand ($2m): Automotive, Hairdressing, IT/Multimedia, Health, Welding/Fabrication

 TEC students will also have the benefit of a new Rural Industries Campus ($10m): Equine, Agriculture, Horticulture & Animal Studies (opens in February 2010)  The TEC is a stakeholder in a successful TTC consortium ($13.5m) called YouthNet involving Wangaratta HS and schools in Rutherglen, Yarrawonga, Bright, Myrtleford, Benalla, Mansfield & Numurkah  YouthNet (Commonwealth Government) will contribute $900,000 towards the upgrade of an existing and dedicated TEC Automotive facility at GOTAFE

Progress to date:  Commenced in 2008  Emphasis - traditional trades and GOTAFE’s areas of specialisation  VET enrolments 2009: 175  Projected VET enrolments 2010: 396  A shared enrolment model is used for VET  Number of TAFE Taster students 2009: 45  Projected TAFE Taster students 2010: 60  Students do either the VCE or VCAL  Students attend the TEC for 1-2 days per wk  All students do a SWL placement

 GOTAFE has a strategic partnership with the DEECD Hume Region (on behalf of Mooroopna SC, Shepparton HS, McGuire College and Wanganui Park SC)  This partnership recognises the TEC’s pre- eminent role in providing trade courses at the Certificate II level and higher  Students also come from Notre Dame College in Shepparton and from schools in Cobram, Numurkah, Nathalia, Kyabram, Euroa & Rushworth  A bus is funded by GOTAFE for students in Cobram & Numurkah in 2009

 A bus will be funded by GOTAFE for students in Euroa in 2010  A new TEC building, subject to funding, will be located at GOTAFE’s William Orr Campus in Shepparton in future years following the relocation of the trades from GOTAFE’s main campus in Fryers Street  It is anticipated that the TEC will be a stakeholder in a future bid by the Goulburn Valley TTC consortium (2010/2011)  The TEC and TTC may become the one entity in future years

Future developments 2010 / beyond:  Pre-Apprentices will become involved in the TEC – options include two preapp courses in a year and provision of extra Literacy and Numeracy support, SWL placements and employment support (called PreApps Plus)  Future student portfolios will include samples of student work  Teachers and employers will assess students’ employability skills (trial undertaken in 2009)  Students will have an endorsed pathways plan to guide progress at, and after, the TEC

 Graduates will receive a TEC Certificate  A job shop (incl. a kiosk) will enhance students’ employment and apprenticeship prospects  VET courses will be developed to emphasise project-based learning  Trade teachers (incl. TEC teachers) will teach common modules in the trades online: OHS, Communication, Calculation  Industry sponsorship and partnerships will be sought for the TECs  Curriculum development is required to fully utilise a Technology studio in the Wangaratta TEC

 Industry mentors (for teachers) and industry advocates (for students) will be sourced and supported  Literacy & Numeracy (VCAL) and English & Mathematics (VCE) need curriculum development to have a vocational emphasis  Partnerships with TTC consortiums are priorities: YouthNet TTC (NE Victoria) and Goulburn Valley TTC  The provision of higher level VET courses (Certificate III) may be expanded in future years after the development of TTCs in Wangaratta and Shepparton

 Destination (and satisfaction) surveys are underway and results will be addressed eg. ensuring a higher level of correlation between TEC courses and post TEC outcomes  A TEC-style development may occur in the Seymour, Broadford, Wallan & Kinglake area emphasising the traditional trades esp. Building and Construction
