Presentation transcript:

Multimedia Authoring1 Animation What is Animation Animation is defined as the act of making something come alive. It is concerned with the visual or aesthetic aspect of the project. Animation is an object moving across or into or out of the screen. In animation, a series of images are rapidly changed to create an illusion of movement.

Multimedia Authoring2 Animation Animation used appropriately Not used appropriately Drawing attention to something of no use is an example of an ineffective and even negative application of animation.

Multimedia Authoring3 Animation Can be simple as simple as blinking text, rotating logos and animated icons

Multimedia Authoring4 Animation Can be more complex Animated childrens stories Full length animated feature films Games Training programs -adjust controls, assemble parts -play instruments -learn concepts in education -learn sports techniques In many cases animation is superior to video as video represents real life which is sometimes too complex. In animation we can simplify the concepts. Animation can be simpler and easier to understand. Also more cost effective, smaller files for easier downloads.

Multimedia Authoring5 Animation Effective Use of Flash in the Professional Environment Business Advertise a product Showcase a skill Present an image Example: Education Flash can be used in education as part of a learning experience for the user. Some of the areas include interactive demonstrations, simulations and animated tests. Example: Entertainment Cartoons Movies Games

Multimedia Authoring6 Animation Guidelines to Follow

Multimedia Authoring7 Animation Creating animation The playback rate:the number of frames displayed per second when the animation is being viewed. A higher playback rate will generally result in a higher quality animation Rates: Full motion video standards: Web standard: Anything less will flicker

Multimedia Authoring8 Animation Animation Space Animation can be rendered in: 2-D space - 2-D animations are very simple. 3-D space - Complicated and realistic animations are done in 3-D space. Much more complex Take into account different angles/views, lighting etc.

Multimedia Authoring9 Animation Frame based (Cel) Animation Also called cel animation (comes from the word celluloid) Frame based animation is a technique in which a series of progressively different graphics are used on each frame of movie film. Keyframes. Keyframes refer to the first and the last frame of an action. Keyframes are used to specify changes in the animation. Tweening The frames in between the keyframes are drawn in the tweening process. Tweening depicts the action that takes place between keyframes.

Multimedia Authoring11 Animation Computer Animation Computer animation is very similar to Frame based (cel) animation. The primary difference is in how much must be drawn by the animator and how much is automatically generated by the software. The artist creates one object and a path Motion Tweening Shape Tweening
