El Niño and La Niña are weather conditions where the weather is warmer or cooler than normal. El Niño is when it is warmer than normal. La Niña is when it is colder than normal. Both of these can cause a global change in our weather. NOAA's El Niño Page 5/3/2013
El Niño and La Niña are caused by the water near the equator to warm or cool more than it usually does. This causes the air to gain or lose heat. This air travels to land and brings us weather that can cause floods, drought, or snow. El Niño can sometimes be caused by underwater volcanoes that warm the water.
