Goals For Today! Spark the Conversation Read the Book Move Forward Julie Mathiesen-AASA National Conference on Education - Houston, TX Read the Book Inevitable: Mass Customized Learning by Charles Schwahn and Bea McGarvey Move Forward

What is mass customized learning? Mass Customized Learning (MCL) is a new and exciting vision for education that uses today’s powerful mass customizing technology to meet the personal learning needs of every learner every hour of every day.

Contrast? 21st Century Learning anyone to learn anything from anywhere at any time in any way from worldwide experts Industrial Age Learning a specific student can learn specific subjects in a specific classroom on a specific schedule in a specific way from a specific teacher

What do we need to move forward? Curriculum- online, accessible-common core Know Our Students ITunes Amazon Verizon Customized Service video  Access to technology and systems

Curriculum: Let's learn from Apple, Amazon, Google, and other mass customizing industries.  iTunes allows me to choose a single song from an inventory of 6+ million, download that song to my computer in less than 60 seconds, and be listening to my new favorite tune.  Might our learners be able to download learning activities much like that?

Amazon.com Profiling Consumer evaluations of products Could we use amazon’s profiling to help identify the best most effective learning styles of individual learners? Could you identify the topics, content, people, or activities that interest our students.

Students: Verizon sends me my monthly bill.  They know who I called, who called me, when I called, how long I talked . . . Might our learners and the learning system create electronic learning portfolios much like that? Example of Digital Portfolio

Technology Access 1:1 Technology – Personal computing Course Content Management System Digital Portfolio System Internet Access at home and school Scheduling software

In a nutshell: Access to Curriculum (24/7) Know what motivates students Technology Access
