DC GENERATORS By: Phillip Southard Animated DC Generator

How It Works A wire coil is connected to split ring and rotated between two permanent magnets. Brushes in contact with the split ring then connect the generator to whatever is being supplied power to complete the DC Circuit.

Applications Cars Solar Cells Third-Rail power systems Low-Voltage Electronics (Such as game systems and household appliances)

Why Use It AC Current is commonly used to transport power from the generation plant to homes. Then it is “Rectified,” or transformed, into DC power. DC power has a lower voltage and is thus more appropriate to use on low powered utilities.
