Hemophilia and Adrenoleukodystrophy Ayana Thomas LaQuan Lunford Jo’Rese Cotton

Hemophilia Hemophilia is a genetic disorder that often results in excessive bleeding. It can be mild or severe. It can also cause death. –Symptoms; Excessive bleeding Excessive bruising Easy bleeding Nose bleeds

Cont’d Males get hemophilia. 18,000 people in the U.S. were diagnosed 400 male babies were born with it.

There are 2 types of hemophilia. - Hemophilia A - Hemophilia B 9 out if 10 males get hemophilia A. It is cause by inherited traits. Some males develop it during an illness.

Prevention To prevent hemophilia women or males who carry the trait can choose to not have children Another way is to prevent from any workouts or sports that can bruise or harm you. This disorder is something that is stuck wit you forever. The only way to prevent anything from happening is to be careful.

Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) ALD is an x-linked metabolic disorder. The brain function declines. Without the sheath, neurons cannot conduct action potential which means that the neurons stop telling the muscles and the central nervous system what to do.

Description Continued It affect 100,000 people every year It only affects boys –It’s sex linked on the X- chromosome Appears during the ages of Can lead to disabilities or death

Symptoms Loss of vision Seizures Poor Speech Deafness Trouble Swallowing Fatigue

Symptoms Continued Increase in skin pigment Coordination Problems Progressive Dementia

Treatment Physical Therapy Psychological Therapy Special Education There are NO Cures or Drugs to help with the disabilty
