“Any thing which has mass and can occupy space is called matter”. we also know that matter can be classified into solid. Liquid and gas. This classification is based on the differences in physical properties of the matter.

1.A solid has a definite mass. Volume and shape. 2.In a solid the particles are densely packed. The solids are hard and rigid. 3.The constituent particles are vibrating very minutely and are invisible 4.On heating the vibrating the vibration of particles I n c r e s e s and the s u b s t a n c e expands.

1.A liquid has no fixed shape. 2.It has a fixed volume and mass. 3.L I q u I d assumes the shape of the container. 4.The particles in a liquid are not as densly packed as they are vin solids. 5.Liquids can flow easily

1.A gas has fixed mass but not fixed shape or volume. 2.The volume of gas depends on the size of the container. 3.And the speed of the particles increase on heating`

Chemically matter can be classified as pure substances and mixtures. Pure substances are either elements or compounds. Mixtures are either homogeneous or heterogeneous.

1.Are homogeneous. 2.Consist of similar 3.Have specific properties

Cannot be divided into two or more simple substances chemically. Cannot be divided into two or more simple substances chemically. Cannot be synthesized by the chemical combination of other element. Cannot be synthesized by the chemical combination of other element.
