Eastern Puma Concolor couger Olivia Parker

Description The Eastern Puma Concolor couger is tan with a lean body shape They purr unlike all other big cats They are about as long as a man is tall and have a cowlick in the middle of their backs

Habitat The Eastern Puma can adapt to almost every habitat that provides enough cover and prey It has been able to thrive in coniferous forests, tropical forests, swamps, grassland, and dry brush country The Eastern Puma is losing its habitat due to humans moving into their territory

Diet Eastern Pumas eat: Deer Beaver Porcupine Bobcat Rabbit Opossum Fish They use their teeth and claws to rip apart their prey

Offspring The Eastern Puma’s gestation period is from 90 – 96 days There are usually 3 or 4 kittens but there can be up to 6 in a litter The kittens will be with their mother for almost 2 years The mother will be very protective over her kittens

Interesting Facts The Eastern Puma once had the most extensive range of any land mammal They can survive almost anywhere They have many different calls including one that sounds like a screaming woman

Population Changes Pumas were eliminated from most of eastern North America in the 20 th century It is almost impossible to prove that the Eastern Puma still exists because of its elusive nature

Why it is Endangered? The Eastern Puma is endangered due to habitat destruction and mass hunting of its main food supply, the White Tailed Deer.

Situation Improvement These are some groups that are working to improve the Eastern Puma situation: The Endangered Species Act US Fish and Wildlife service With both of these groups working to save the Eastern Puma I think that the situation will improve.
