Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is made up of six counties, Fermanagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Londonderry, Armagh and Down. Our school is in County Armagh.

The British Flag Northern Ireland is part of Great Britain and shares the same flag.

Marble Arch Caves The Marble Arch Caves are found in County Fermanagh. They are made of soft rock which has been hollowed by rainwater over millions of years. The caves are filled with the remains of thousands and thousands of tiny sea creatures which lived and died millions of years ago. Hillsborough Castle Hillsborough Castle is found in the centre of Hillsborough village and is actually an 18 th century mansion house. Today it is the official residence of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Castle Ward Castle Ward is found near Strangford and is an 18 th - century stately home with extensive gardens, owned by the National Trust.

West Belfast Murals Although most people wish to leave our troubled history behind, the murals painted on the walls of the Catholic and Protestant areas of West Belfast have become a tourist attraction. Belfast Wheel The Belfast Wheel is situated in the grounds of the City Hall. It offers views across the City and has capsules which hold up to eight people. City Hall Belfast's City Hall dominates Donegal Square in Belfast and is one of the grandest buildings in the city centre. Belfast Castle Belfast Castle looks over the city from the slopes of Cave Hill, an area which has played an integral part in the city’s history. Now the hill is part of a beautiful country park.

The Giant’s Causeway This natural phenomenon is made of 40,000 columns of basalt rock. Sir Richard Bukely was the first to discover this famous landmark and it has an Irish Legend attached to it about a giant called Finn MacCool. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge This wire rope bridge is high up over the sea and in the past was used by fishermen. The bridge is very safe and was redesigned in 2008 costing £ The bridge is often closed during winter time and in stormy weather.

Mary Peters Mary Peters won a gold medal in the 1972 Summer Olympic Games for the Pentathalon. She also won two gold medals in the Commonwealth games between 1958 and There is now an athletic track on the out skirts of Belfast named after her. Hockey Hockey is a game with eleven players on each team. The aim of the game is to tackle other players and score goals into the other teams net. Hockey is played with a hockey stick and a ball. Netball There can be seven people in a netball team and the aim of the game is to score points by getting the ball into the hoop. A match lasts sixty minutes, there are a lot of netball teams in Northern Ireland for adults and young people.

George Best George Best was known for playing football for Manchester United and Northern Ireland. He was born in Belfast on the 22 nd May 1946 and died on the 25 th November 2005 at the age of 59. He played for Northern Ireland and played 37 games and scored 9 goals during his time. After he died Belfast City Airport was named after him. Pat Jennings Pat Jennings was a famous goalkeeper for Northern Ireland and Arsenal. He was born on the 12 th June 1945 and died at the age of 64.
