New Zealand Industry: education And Training

Introduction to Education in New Zealand In New Zealand, education is free until the age of 19, and 21 for people with disabilities. Even so, parents are expected to pay MINOR fees, that includes school trips, uniform, and stationery. However, education is CUMPULSORY. Some primary or secondary schools may only offer single-gender education (all male or all female).

Primary Education in New-Zealand Primary School (Elementary School), starts at 5 years old. It lasts for 6 years (Year 1-Year 6). Children MUST be enrolled before 6 years old, but most children start at 5. School usually starts at 9:00AM, and ends at 3:00PM, having a small break at around 11:00AM, and a ‘lunchtime’ that lasts for about an hour. In some schools, there may be an afternoon break.

Secondary Education In New Zealand Secondary in New Zealand includes 2 separate parts: Intermediate (Years 7-8) and College (Years 8-11, 12, 13). Students may choose to leave at Year 11 or 12, while students could also choose to stay till Year 13. Some schools operate for primary and secondary both in the same location. These schools are called ‘Composite Schools’. NCEA (National Curriculum of Educational Achievements) is a senior secondary school national standard in New Zealand schools. It started in 1998, and launched into schools since 2002. It is split into NCEA Level 1 (Year 11), NCEA Level 2 (Year 12) and NCEA Level 3 (Year 13).

University Education in New Zealand A Bachelors degree usually takes 3 years, and a further study would lead to an Honours Degree. Honours Degree is split into First Class, Upper and Lower Second Class, and Third Class. A person with a Bachelors degree could also proceed to a Masters Degree. One who has either a Honours or Master Degree may pass though to in order to get a doctoral degree.

New Zealand Special Education New Zealand Special Education helps students with special needs, so they could contribute to the community socially, or also economically. People are currently using new learning environments and technology in order to help people with special needs in their learning.
