Mt Vesuvius

When Mt Vesuvius erupted ash fell on Pompeii and Herculaneum, covering everything including people. The ash that covered the people were called body casts.

In 1700 Stabiae, Pompeii and it’s sister city Herculaneum were found buried in ash. Pompeii was buried under 8 to 10 feet of debris and ash.

Mt Vesuvius has erupted 50 times since the eruption in 79 AD. It is one of the world’s most dangerous volcano in the world.

Mt Vesuvius is a composite volcano or a stratovolcano. Although Plinian eruptions normally erupt from composite volcanoes. Hawaiian and Strombolian eruptions also erupt from Mt Vesuvius.

Before Mt Vesuvius erupted everyone that lived at Pompeii didn’t believe that Mt Vesuvius was a volcano.

Pliny the younger’s father died, so Pliny the elder rose Pliny up. In 79 AD he witnessed the eruption from Mt Vesuvius which killed his uncle. Pliny the younger did not die, he travelled to Rome

Mt Vesuvius might be dangerous but Mt Saint Helens and the yellow stone volcanoes are also dangerous.

A volcano is formed when magma squeezes in between the earths tectonic plates. This how a volcano is formed.

A volcano spew lava because all the magma inside the volcano is under pressure and after a while the volcano releases the magma or lava.
