4 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Windows Live Spaces With Windows Live Spaces you can create your own personal Web page to share your life and activities with others. With your space you can: Create a blog using Windows Live Writer or a blog editor Share photos, videos, and links to documents, photos and files stored on SkyDrive Create lists containing favorite books, songs, movies… Invite others to view your space and leave comments For more information check out:

5 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Windows Live Writer Windows Live Writer is the blogging application that works with Windows Live Spaces and allows you to create and publish content so you can: Manage published blog posts Create new posts Complete rich formatting of blog posts Insert links to messages, add images or entire photo albums Insert tables, videos, maps Complete easy “one click” content publishing (including photographs) For more information check out:

7 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Log on to Open your browser and go to your school portal or enter Log on with your Windows Live ID and password and click Sign in. Click the More drop-down arrow list. Click Spaces.

8 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create your space Click Create your space. Click Edit profile details.

9 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create your space (continued) Click Choose web address. Enter your preferred Web address and click Check availability. Note there is a sub-domain and it will appear before the main address: spaces.live.com

10 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create your space (continued) When you find an available Web address click Save and you will automatically return to your space home page. To edit the Title and tagline, click Edit.

11 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create your space (continued) Edit the colors, fonts and text for the Title and Tagline of your Windows Live Space. See at the bottom of the window what it looks like in the Preview field. When you have finished editing click Save and you will return to the space home page.

12 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create your space (continued) By default, anyone with access to the Internet can view your space. To change this, click Shared with: Everyone (public). You can select who can view your space: Everyone (public) on the Internet Public and networks: Everyone, including contacts in your Windows Live network can view your space Categories: only people in specific groups you have created can view your space Individuals: enter the name or addresses of the people you want to view your space or click Select from your contact list to add contacts. Click Save to update your permission settings. Important: The default setting on Windows Live Spaces means that your content can be viewed by anybody on the Internet. We recommend that you change this setting and limit access to your students or groups.

16 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Upload and share photos Click Share photos. Click Create an album.

17 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Upload and share photos (continued) Type the album name in the Name: field. Click the Share with: drop-down arrow list. You can click: My network (only your contacts can see it) Everyone (anyone with Internet access can see it) Select people (choose from your Networks and Categories or click individuals) You can also decide not to share the album. If you do not want to share your album, click Just me. Click Next.

18 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Upload and share photos (continued) You can add photos by dragging and dropping them into the field Drop photos here, then click Upload. Alternatively you can click Select photos from your computer and browse to find the photo files. Click Open.

19 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Upload and share photos (continued) Repeat steps 6 or 7 until all the photos are in the field. Click Upload. You can upload 1000 photos at a time. If you use Windows XP or Windows Vista, try installing Windows Live Photo Gallery, which makes uploading photos to your space easier than ever before.Windows Live Photo Gallery Spaces shows you the progress of the upload and gives you the options to Stop if required.

20 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Upload and share photos (continued) Your photo album has now been shared with your contacts. To return to your space, click the More drop-down arrow list. Click Spaces. Click View your space.

22 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry Once you are in your space, click Add blog entry. Provide a Title for your blog entry then start writing in the editable field. The formatting tools are very similar to those in Microsoft Word. If you are familiar with HTML, click HTML and enter the code directly.

23 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry (continued) To add photos to your blog, click the Add photos link below the editing field. You can add photos by dragging and dropping them into the field Drop photos here, then click Upload. Alternatively you can click Select photos from your computer and browse to find the photo files. Click Open.

24 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry (continued) To see what your blog entry will look like when published, click Preview entry. To save your blog entry as a draft at any time, click Save as draft. When you have finished, click Publish entry. Your blog is now visible on your space! Invite people to read it and post comments.

26 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer To write a blog on your space using Windows Live Writer, you will need to download the application following these quick steps: Open your browser and enter: Click Download now. A pop up window will appear. Click Download now. To confirm your PC has the minimum system requirements, click System requirements.

27 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) Click Run. The file will download. Click Run.

28 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) You can click on each program to view a description. Make sure the Writer check box is selected and choose any other programs you wish to install. Click Install. Certain programs need to be closed before the application is installed. If you want the installer to close these programs, click the Close these programs for me radio button. Click the Ignore any open programs radio button if you want the installer to ignore these programs. It may mean you need to restart your computer after installation is complete. Click Continue.

29 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) Click Continue. Click Close. Windows Live Writer and any other programs you chose to download are in the Windows Live folder in your Start menu.

30 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) You may need to log on to Windows Live Spaces again. Open your browser and go to your school portal or enter Log on with your Windows Live ID and password and click Sign in. In your start menu locate and click Windows Live Writer.

31 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) Click Next to Configure Windows Live Writer. Click the Windows Live Spaces radio button Click Next.

32 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) Enter your Windows Live ID and Password and click Next. Your blog account will be set up. Confirm the name of your blog and click Finish.

34 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Write a blog entry with Windows Live Writer (continued) Enter a title for your blog then enter your blog below in the text field. You can insert links, photos, and even maps in your blog. Spend some time adding content and getting familiar with the Windows Live Writer features. To preview your blog on your space, click the Preview tab. Click Publish to publish your blog.

37 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create a list In your space, click Add a list. Click Book to create a Book list. There are also Music, Movie and Custom options. Enter a Title and Description. When you have finished click Save.

38 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create a list (continued) Enter book titles in the field provided, and click Next. Click Add author, Add ISBN, or Add description to provide these details.

39 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Create a list (continued) Click your space home page. The list will now appear on your home page. If you entered the correct ISBN numbers then the cover page of the book will be automatically shown as a small image.

41 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Customize your space Click the Customize drop-down arrow list. Click Add modules. Click Add or Show or Hide next to each Module that you want to add, show or hide in the space. Click Close tab.

42 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Customize your space (continued) Click Themes. Themes are grouped together. To view the themes, click the drop-down list next to the name of the theme. Click the theme you like. The theme will be displayed instantly in your space. Click the Close tab when you are finished.

43 Windows Live Spaces + Windows Live Writer Customize your space (continued) Click the Layout tab to show available layout options. Scroll through the list until you see a layout you like, then click it. Your space will be refreshed immediately with your new layout. Click Close tab.

You can: Change the color of text and links Change font Change the font size Change the font style Change background colors Upload a custom background image Change module colors and fonts Your space will be refreshed immediately with your new colors, fonts and background. Click Close tab.
