The drought in the Horn of Africa had thrown the region into even more chaos. It was being called “the worst drought in north-east Africa for 60 years,” and population of some countries had more than doubled in the last years. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) says that changing weather patterns have made droughts more common in the region.

Humanitarian aid, ingenuity, and rain all helped create a future of hope and relief for the 2011 drought in Eastern Africa.
