Storm Warriors or True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle PowerPoint Vocabulary Word Study

Decide on Word categories Look at the list assigned to your group Are there commonalities to the words? Are some geographical, nautical, descriptive, nouns, adjectives? As a group, decide on categories and who will be responsible for each word Write the name of the person assigned next to each word

Creating Slide Show As a group, decide on the format for the slide presentation You need to use the same background, font, and format Each person is responsible for their category o of words Some students in your group may have a few more words than others based on the categories—be as fair as possible—you may need to rethink categories if the numbers are really different

Slide Contents Each person should have a title page that says Storm Warriors Vocabulary or True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle at the top Each title page should also include the name of the category of words

Vocabulary Slides Each slide should have the vocabulary word A definition of the word A visual to demonstrate knowledge of word: This could be a picture, a cartoon, a sentence using the word correctly.

Online dictionary sources: You may use the same online dictionary for all words and cite the source one time. Recommended: Onelook.com (this will give you a variety of choices of dictionaries to use for the word) http://www.merriam-webster.com/ http://dictionary.reference.com/ http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/dictionaryhome.aspx

Citations The last slide should be a list of citations Remember that Google is a search engine—find the URL for the actual picture. Example of a citation for an image (using the picture of the book on my title slide): “Storm Warriors book jacket.” http://bookwizard.scholastic.com/tbw/viewWorkDetail.do/workId/3242/. February 8, 2010. or “True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle book jacket.” http://www.kdl.org/categories/213/books/3321 October 17, 2010.
