HOW ARE STARS FORMED AND HOW DO THEY DIE? By Karl Vincent N. Sy

HOW ARE STARS FORMED?

FIRST Giant cloud of gas start to clump together because of gravity. /

Second The disturbance causes clumps to form and draw gas inwards.

Third The collapsing of the clumps begins to rotate and starts to flatten into a disc of gas and dust. /

Fourth  The disc rotates faster and faster pulling more material inwards creating a hot, dense core called a protostar. /

Fifth When the protostar becomes hot enough hydrogen atoms begin to fuse, producing helium and energy. /

Sixth After millions of years a bipolar flor erupts from the protostar and blasts away remaining gas and dust.

How do stars die?

Stars like the sun When the core runs out of hydrogen fuel, it will contract under the weight of gravity. However, some hydrogen fusion will occur in the upper layers. As the core contracts, it heats up. This heats the upper layers, causing them to expand.

Stars more massive than the sun When the core runs out of hydrogen, these star fuse helium into carbon just like the sun. when the helium is gone, their mass is enough to fuse carbon into heavier element such as oxygen, silicon, neon, magnesium, sulfur and iron.
