LE FUTUR

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? It means how to translate « will » or « won’t »

HOW DO I DO IT? First, take the full form of the verb: Regarder - Parler- Finir- Prendr- (if the verb finishes with « re », take off the « e »)

OK, WHAT DO I DO NEXT? Then, add the right endings: Je (I) – ai Tu (you) – as Il/elle (he/she) – a Nous (we) – ons Vous (you) – ez Ils/elles (they) - ont

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET Je parler - ai – I will speak/ I’m going to speak Tu finir - as – You will finish/You’re going to finish Il jouer - a - he’ll play

CAN YOU DO IT? Nous rester - Ils attendr - Vous partir - J’écouter - Il travailler - ons ont ez ai a

C’est facile, non?!!

EXCEPTIONS You didn’t really think it would be that easy, did you?!

SOME VERBS DON’T FOLLOW THE RULES Aller Avoir Devoir Être Faire Vouloir Voir Venir Pouvoir Ir - Aur – Devr- Ser – Fer – Voudr – Verr – Viendr – Pourr

But the endings remain the same

So, for example… J’ir Tu ser Il viendr Nous pourr Elles voudr Vous fer ai as a ons ont ez I’ll go You will be He’ll come We’ll be able to They’ll want You will do

SOME PRACTICE On Saturday, I’ll go to the cinema. Samedi, j’irai au cinema. Tonight, I’m going to do my homework. Ce soir, je ferai mes devoirs. Will you come with me? Tu viendras avec moi?

Ready to have a go?

YOUR TURN (answers on the next slides) He won’t come with you. She will be 14 next week. They’re going to watch a film on TV. We’re going to play football in the school team. When will you do your homework?

ANSWERS Il ne viendra pas avec toi. Elle aura 14 ans la semaine prochaine. Ils regarderont un film à la télé. Nous jouerons au football dans l’équipe de l’école. Quand feras-tu tes devoirs?
