The anthropophilic form of T. mentagrophytes and a common cause of tinea pedis, particularly the vesicular type, tinea corporis and sometimes superficial nail plate invasion. Not known to invade hair in vivo, but produces hair perforations in vitro. Must be differentiated from the downy forms of T. rubrum. Distribution: World-wide.
