Evolution of distance education at MIT System Design & Management Program (SDM) Created in 1996, this program was the first degree program from a distance from MIT, awarding a Master of Science in Engineering and Management.

Students participate from remote locations, either at their company or home, connecting to the MIT classroom remotely through video conferencing. System Design & Management SDM’s distance experience is important for all SDM fellows, whether they are enrolled in SDM’s on-campus, distance or commuter options, because all class assignments are designed to replicate today’s reality of geographically disparate teams in the workplace. -

Evolution of distance education at MIT Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) The SMA program was launched in 1998 with the first set of classes occurring in the summer of SMA I the first program, ran for 5 years and was extended to SMA II which ended in June of 2010.
