Number of People overweight Rivals Worlds hungry The number of underfed people had declined to 1.1 billion The number of overweight people has increased to 1.1 billion 80% of the world underfed children come from countries that have a food surplus

“THE FOOD YOU EAT CAN BE EITHER THE SAFEST & MOST POWERFUL FORM OF MEDICINE OR THE SLOWEST FORM OF POISON.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) provides the following Global facts 1.6 Billion adults (15 and up ) are overweight At least 400 million are obese At least 20 million children under the age of 5 years of age are obese These are stats from 2005

Global impact! This problem is affecting many low- middle income countries Childhood obesity will lead to adult obesity and as a result lead to increased non-communicable diseases This provides the low income countries with at double burden of disease as they still have higher rates of under-nutrition and infectious diseases.

Are most healthy calories then become more expensive Norway and Ireland have made successful gains in healthy food choices for all economic groups by targeting appropriate food subsidies.
