Program Philosophy Philosophy To instill discipline, sportsmanship, and character while enjoying the game of soccer. Objectives 1.Prepare each player physically, technically, tactically, and psychologically for playing soccer at the high school level and beyond. 2.Teach the values of a team and the responsibilities which accompany being part of a team. 3.Evaluate player performance and attitude in oral and written format.

Parent Involvement Ball Boys or Girls – Any younger siblings or neighbors. Free Admission, T-shirt for numerous games. Will need to know size. Booster Club – Join the booster club. Money can be allocated to soccer. Team Dinners – 3 per season. Host and 5 helpers. Pasta, bread, salad, dessert, etc… This is great for team bonding. (Sign-up sheet) Oranges – Halftime of each game. Fundraising & Expenditures The WSFCS does not fund athletics. It is the job of each school to raise the money to support its athletic programs. The money for the soccer program generally comes from our fundraising. This season we have new uniforms (both JV and Varsity). Last year we sold discount cards, and were able to raise over $6000 for the program. This year we are selling discount cards again. If each player sells 20 cards, we should be able to profit $ The goal I envision is that we be as self-sufficient as possible. There are very few revenue generating sports, and I think it is important to be as little a burden as possible on the athletic department, and school in general.

Rules & Expectations 1.Players must wear shin guards at training and in games. 2.Players who are going to be late or miss training need to tell the coaches personally. If a player needs to make up work or attend a club meeting, he/she needs to bring a note from the teacher. If possible, make up work on a game day or in the morning so as not to miss training. 3.Players who miss training (for most reasons) will not start the next game, and may see their playing time decrease. 4.Any player ejected from a game for obscene gestures, fighting, or attempting to fight will be suspended for 4 games. (WSFCS policy) In addition, we reserve the right to dismiss players from the team. 5.Anyone leaving the bench to join a fight will be dismissed from the team. 6.Players who make obscene gestures, yell profanity, or throw objects from the bus will be dismissed from the team.

Rules & Expectations (continued) 7)Players must ride to and leave from games on the team bus. (JV Exception) 8)Players must be in school ½ day to practice or play. 9)Players must show progress reports/report cards to coaches. 10)No use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs will be permitted. 11)Destruction or theft of property will result in automatic dismissal from the team. 12)Do not complain about playing time. All players are valuable to the team, but may not play in every game. Parents before contacting a coach about playing time, have the player talk to the coach. 13)Respect the coaches and your teammates. Any disrespect may result in decreased playing time, dismissal from practice, or dismissal from the team. 14)Enjoy the Experience!!!

Sportsmanship What your child is learning about teamwork, competition, dedication, and responsibility is invaluable. Organized sports give your child access to the emotional and physical challenges that will help them in college and in life. Help the Team and Your Child on the Sidelines! Encourage, Don’t Discourage – Cheer positively. Compliment your son/daughter and teammates. Let the Referees Referee – Referees help teach fair play and sportsmanship. Try to avoid criticizing the referee. Remember that he/she is human and will make mistakes. Lighten Up – Help relieve the pressure of competition, not increase it. Be a Sport – Cheer good play by both teams. Remember that the other team is also working hard and deserves respect. Effort is More Important than Winning – Teamwork, self-esteem, and sportsmanship are the payoffs of competition. Let the Coaches Coach – Respect the Coaches.
