Variable- a quantity or function that may assume any given value or set of values Isolating the y- put the y variable by itself to solve an equation Substituting to solve for y- substitute x-coordinate point to solve for the y-coordinate point Using Substitution to solve for y- two different equation to substitute
The y-variable is accompanied by a integer on the left side In order to isolate the y- variable the y must be by itself, in order to do that the integer has to use inverse operation Since the y has a value of 2, the value will be divided on both sides Now the y is finally isolated! 2y – 7 = 6x y = 6x y = 3x + 3 Inverse Division
There are two equations now since there y can be cancelled out we can add the two equations, then use the inverse Now that we have x we need to substitute into an equation 6x – 7 = 2y – 1 +-5x + 4=-2y - 5 x -3= x = (-3) – 7 = 2y – – 7 = 2y – = 2y – = 2y 2 2 y = -12
So we have the x-coordinate point is 4 and we want to solve for the y-coordinate point so we substitute Then we multiply 3 and 4 which equals 12 After, add 12 and 3 which equals 15 The coordinate points would be (4, 15) y = 3x + 3 y = 3 (4) + 3 y = y = 15
Make sure what you do on 1 side of the equal sign you do the exact same thing on the other Dont forget to use the inverse to isolate the y Make sure when substituting the x-coordinate you use PEMDAS to get the right result for the y-coordinate
