Champion & Process Owner 4/6/2017 Champion & Process Owner Process Owner Manage day-to-day process improvement efforts Report progress for management review in 1.1.4 Ensure process maturity level 3 is reached and maintained Coordinate kaizen and other improvement projects Champion Develop Team Charter to communicate priority of improvement Clarify how specific process improvement supports company goals Help team select metrics to measure improvement Remove obstacles & expedite expense approvals Encourage and acknowledge effort Assure improvements are sustained A champion is a senior leader whose job it is to help link top level goals to the improvement of the process and clear the way for the improvement efforts. Champions manage a group of processes while process owners focus on one process. We might also say that Champions are value stream owners or champions. That’s because a value stream is defined as a collection of processes with a common goal. A process owner is directly involved day-to-day in the improvement efforts and is responsible for organizing and implementing improvements. SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved
SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved 4/6/2017 Assign Process Owners Value Stream Champion Process Owner Leadership & Culture 1.1.1 Strategic Planning Process 1.1.2 Leadership Communication Process 1.1.3 Organizational Performance Review Process 1.1.4 Continuous Improvement Management Process 1.1.5 Workforce Development Integration Process 1.2.1 Supply Chain Integration Process 1.3.1 New Product Startup Process The first task is to assign champions and process owners to the 7 leadership processes. You will need to identify one senior executive in your company to be the champion for the Leadership & Culture value stream or “track.” Then you will need to assign a process owner to each of the seven leadership & culture processes. This would normally be someone who is a member of the leadership team for the company. Give some thought to who the best choices would be now and jot down the names. For a very small company, some people may have to serve as process owner for several processes. But loading all processes onto one person is not the right thing to do. “One man band” implementations rarely work because the management abdicates their responsibility for the SEA management system implementation. It is best for the whole leadership team to own these processes even though one person will be assigned some of the work. SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved

There is one champion to assign for each track - workforce development and operational excellence. And finally there are 8 process owners to assign. Managed Process Owners 4/6/2017 Managed Process Owners Value Stream Champion Process Owner After you have assigned all of the Stage One roadmap processes, it’s time to assign the Managed Processes. But first you’ll need to select the value streams that you’re going to focus on and the processes within those value streams that you’ll be assigning to process owners. And that’s another webcast called “Value Stream Mapping.” SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved SEA 2011 All Rights Reserved
