Praxis Praxis, internship, apprenticeship or experience based learning? The general rules Diplomingeniørpraktik (integreret praktik) Diplomingeniøruddannelsen omfatter individuel praktik, jf. professionsbachelorbekendtgørelsen.
Praxis Aristotle: “the actions of free men” Praxis, theoria and poesia Praxis: economia, etics and politics Praxis: eupraxis and dyspraxis Praxis: another name for Aphrodite – goddess of love and beauty
Praxis Praxis vs. Theory A dichotomy? “Theory without practise is void and practice without theory is blind” Praxis as custom Praxis as action
Praxis Praxis as validation of theory Marx: “The philosophers have already perceived the world in various ways; the point is to change it”
Praxis Praxis as a pedagogical devise Dewey, Freire, Lave and Wenger, Kolb, …
Praxis Gadamer: ”Alles rechte Verstehen ist Anwendung” ”All true understanding is application” “Al sand forståelse er anvendelse”
Praxis Hermeneutics – How do we understand? Horizon, tradition and prejudice Situation, language and dialogue The question of the general and the particular
Praxis The question of the general and the particular Ex.:Ethics and judgement of a situation Craft tradition and building a house Theory and application Engineering science and engineering practise Ethics, understanding and application is the same and cannot be separated
Praxis Gadamer’s analysis of phronesis Phronesis, techne and episteme Episteme, universal knowledge (math) Techne, knowledge af art and craft (craftsmanship) Phronesis, knowledge of the social (ethics)
Praxis Q: How do we apply ethical knowledge – phronesis – to a situation requiring judgement? Like techne or like episteme? Not like episteme, because it is not universal (eg. Phronesis has no object like episteme) More like Techne as it is applied knowledge and requires judgement. It is learned like an apprenticeship, from someone who knows, from tradition. Phronesis is also different from techne as man is no object.
Praxis Conclusion: Understanding involves action, commitment, ethics and self knowledge. And nothing is understood before it is applied.
Praxis Consequences for internship, praxis? A chance for the student to apply engineering knowledge and thereby really understand what is learned.
Praxis “actions of free men” – praxis, poesia, theoria Praxis: economia, etics and politics Praxis: eupraxis and dyspraxis Praxis: Validation of theory (Marx) Praxis: another name for Aphrodite – goddess of love and beauty?
Praxis What is applies – by the engineers – is not only engineering knowledge (as episteme), but also phroneis and techne
