4 Summary of Developing Delegates & Activists  people learn to be union  every contact is a potential education opportunity – organisers need to maximise each opportunity  union education is about emancipating people via new knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour to change their lives.  delegate and activist development needs to be planned, not just left to chance

5 New Research Has Found That:  Unions that invest in their delegates, building their confidence and skills will experience greater power in the workplace.  Organisers need to keep in touch with delegates.  Organisers are the most important source of knowledge, advice and support for delegates.  Organisers can sustain the commitment of delegates by making personal, follow-up contact after training.
