IEEE Region 1 PACE funding for attending IEEE USA Leadership workshop Dr. Amruthur Narasimhan IEEE NJ Coast Section PACE Chair IEEE Region 1 Winter meeting February 7, 200 IEEE Region 1

Funding to attend IEEE USA leadership workshop l IEEE Region1 reimburses up to $ l 50% of expenses to each of the sections l Region 1 receives limited funds from IEEE USA ($ ) for reimbursing to section representatives. l Section was picking up the rest of the amount towards the travel expenses. l Over the years, the cost of attending these conferences have gone up l hotel, registration and air travel expenses have tremendously increased. l Section will require to reimburse $800 to $1000 to represent the IEEE USA leadership workshop.  Certainly expensive for many sections.

Why attending IEEE USA leadership workshop is important? l Region 1 has recommended in the past attending IEEE USA leadership workshop l Workshop covers major areas l Employment and member services l Government services l Innovation Institute l Professional activities l Attending these conferences will benefit the sections to conduct their future programs. l Attendees from all PACE leaders from all Sections within USA. l encourages communication between all PACE leaders conducting good PACE programs, soliciting speakers etc..  It is important for section to represent in the IEEE USA leadership program.

A new proposal for funding l Allocate monies to the Areas l Allocate to sections on alternate year basis. l Example: l if there are 6 sections within an Area, then 3 representatives from this Area could attend one year and other 3 representatives could attend next year. l Those section’s representatives attending this year will make a presentation, or write-up and report to other sections l Region 1 awards $500 x 2 = $1, to the section representative attending this year l Section to spends rest of the monies towards travel. l Advantages l Sections spends less amount l Encourages communication between PACE leaders in the Area l Region 1 does not have extra expenses. l Obtains all the information from IEEE USA via presentation, or report
