doc.: IEEE /0282r0 Submission March, 2006 B Aboba, M Lefkowitz, K SoodSlide 2 Abstract This presentation describes the support for TGr Fast Transitions in TGk Neighbor Reports. Motivation: Neighbor Reports may be used for early discovery of the Target APs that support Fast Transitions within the same Mobility Domain

doc.: IEEE /0282r0 Submission March, 2006 B Aboba, M Lefkowitz, K SoodSlide 3 Proposal Recommend addition of the following bits in the Neighbor Report: –Mobility Domain Bit If set, indicates that the Target AP belongs to the same Mobility Domain (MD) as the current AP, which means –Mobility Domain Identifier (MD-ID) of the Target AP is the same as that of the current AP. The Resource Capability and Policy Octet in the Mobility Domain IE (MDIE) is uniform across all APs in this Mobility Domain. All APs within the same MD are reachable over-the-DS.

doc.: IEEE /0282r0 Submission March, 2006 B Aboba, M Lefkowitz, K SoodSlide 4 Proposal Recommend addition of the following bits in the Neighbor Report: –Authenticator Bit If set, indicates that the Target AP and the current AP share the same Authenticator No latency in “pulling” the PMK-R1 – as the PMK-R1 will be the same Reduces latency in PTK compute steps, as no new PMK-R1 needs to be computed

doc.: IEEE /0282r0 Submission March, 2006 B Aboba, M Lefkowitz, K SoodSlide 5 Valid Bit Combinations Mobility Domain Bit = 0 Mobility Domain Bit = 1 Authenticator Bit = 0Authenticator Bit = 1 No Fast Transitions supported Fast Transitions supported, and new PMK-R1 needs to be computed by STA and new PMK-R1 procured by R1KH Fast Transitions supported, and STA has PMK-R1 and R1KH has the PMK-R1 A desirable choice for AP and STA

doc.: IEEE /0282r0 Submission March, 2006 B Aboba, M Lefkowitz, K SoodSlide 6 Current Status of Fast Transition in Neighbor Report These changes to be (initially) done in TGk. TGk Neighbor Report includes a “Key Scope” bit, which will be changed/renamed to “Authenticator” bit. TGk Neighbor Report adds a “Mobility Domain” bit TGr refers to these bits in the Neighbor Report usage as a recommendation (as an informative section…because Discovery is out of scope for TGr)
