Character Poster/Map for use with independent reading books

You will need for class: Colored pencils Computer paper Your IRP book OR – use “The Pearl” = Kino, Doctor or Juana

Character Poster Using a character (does not have to be main character as long as you can complete the activity required) from your IRP book (or Annie Dillard from “An American Childhood” pg 53 in our lit book) Create a character poster

Poster Directions: front Write the title and author neatly on the top of the blank paper. (vertical please) Draw the character. –Colored pencils, hand-drawn –Full page portrait (or can make collage of things you have learned about the character. For example, if mine loves to drink Coke, then draw a Coke can…) Select three short passages from the novel that show three of the character's –physical description, –personality, –relationship with other characters, –Strengths or weaknesses. –copied neatly on the paper with the picture – all one-sided (to hang in classroom) –Must include page numbers

Poster Directions: back Character Map In the center of the page, the students should write the character's name in a circle. In circles that are connected to the main character circle with lines, the students should write friends, family members and enemies of the characters. A short description of each connecting paragraph should be noted on the map. Next slide as example
