 Goals of my Superawesome and Oh-So-Exciting Tip Project include: 1. Show students different mediums that can be used for digital storytelling. Don’t worry, I’ve got examples! 2. Outline and discuss the Acceptable Use Policy for Albermarle County and discuss its importance in the classroom. 3. Learn the basics of creating a website so that students have an opportunity to share their work with friends, family, and each other outside of the classroom.

 Students have learned (up to this point) how to create digital cartoons using sites like ComicLife.com and ToonDoo.com. They have also learned how to use Powerpoint to create digital stories.  I have learned how to use a Mac (woohoo!), how to create a WikiSpace, and how to use digital cartoon websites.  Other things learned in the classroom: The importance of the creative process, resources available when searching for digital images, and, coming soon, how to create a website!

 Students were going to use this website to create a 2-frame digital cartoon depicting a scene from Selma, Lord, Selma. Technical difficulties ensued… I created a ToonDoo to introduce myself to the class during my first visit and to introduce the project.

 My Glogster on Prejudice. My Glogster on Prejudice. Students spent a large part of their class time studying the theme of prejudice. They watched films such as Selma, Lord, Selma, a film about Civil Rights, and Gifted Hands, the story of a troubled youth growing up in the ghetto who became a world renowned neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins.

For each lesson, I visited the class three times. Once to teach the lesson, once to start the project and assist the students with questions/technical difficulties, and finally to do last-minute revisions and see the finished product.

Students did the majority of their work in the computer lab. Each project was individual, although there were other group projects that students worked on throughout the semester.
