Task 1 1/03/2013

Critical and historical studies- Part 1 On one of Bronwyn’s Pieces of Art, ‘Unicorn’ [Right] she used many different types of organic forms. Some of the things she used were hair, cane, tissue, wire and paper. By combining these textiles she created a twisted form, contrasting both dark and light. Some might say it looks like a unicorn’s horn, henceforth comes the name ‘Unicorn’. When she created this amazing sculpture, she used a variety of techniques, combining all the separate elements into one.

Critical and historical studies- Part 2 How does the art critic impact my perception and Interpretation of Bronwyn Oliver’s Artworks? Well, the critic tells a bit about her, which helps me to understand a bit about her background. It also shows others’ opinions on her personality and art. Once you understand the artist, you can understand a bit about why they made the works, and what inspired them to do what they do. I think I understand some of her art better now, what it is and what it has to do with her life.

Critical Thinking Task 2 1/03/2013

Part 1 First Berrien lets her mind wander, thinking about things she likes and what she’s been doing lately, while subconsciously starting to work on the face by twisting and looping wires together to form a sort of structure. Finally, she begins focus on her creation. She twists and winds the wires, drawing out muscles and curves; giving her topic more realism. She continuously works, picturing her subject in her head, capturing emotion and movement. Eventually she finishes off her work, securing the wires and checks it over, making sure she has captured the essence of it’s spirit.

Part 2 There are many differences between a general everyday portrait and that of Berrien’s. For example, the difference between techniques when she did the portrait of Charles Darwin with wire. She twisted the wire, continuously working, and changing the work as she did it, whereas a different artist may just do a sketch and paint. The wire in ways make it easier than paint, because you can bend and change it easily. But in other ways, it is harder because the wire you work with is not always so flexible, and near impossible to add an essence of colour.

How does the world influence Ivan Lovett’s artworks? The way the world influences Ivan Lovett’s creations is through it’s animals and native species. Lovett makes sculptures of animals and creatures, using his wire to create realistic copies. It takes weeks for him to create his works, even months. But when he has finished the end result is very rewarding. Lovett’s media challenges the audiences perception through the essence of spirit in his works. PART 1
