Early Years Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas, on July 24. She had to move a lot because her father lost his job frequently because he began drinking. She had 1 younger sister named Muriel. She liked to played basketball with the boys. When she was about 10 years old she had to leave everything behind in Kansas.
Middle Years When Amelia was 18 her family moved to Chicago. She moved to a school in Philadelphia all by herself. She began a scrapbook there called “Women’s Achievements.” Amelia decided to leave school and help the wounded in Toronto, Canada. She marries George Putnam in 1931.
Why this Person was Famous She was famous because she was the first women to fly across the Atlantic Ocean with some other people. She was also famous because she set the women’s speed record for miles per hour. She was also famous because she was the first person to fly solo from Honolulu to Oakland.
