SAR Phases and the Relation to Phases in a Project Initiation - a need being considered Inception - a concept is formulated Elaboration - a logical solution is proposed Construction - a system is build Transition - Implementation of the created solution Evolution Planning - a look to the future Initiation Evolution Planning TransitionConstructionElaborationInception BCRLSARPSARIR 2

This review is performed when a project/initiative is in the business requirements phase, when a problem is initially identified and discussions start on the solution but no specific product or vendor solution has been decided. The Business Case Review will: Discuss the business problem that this project is addressing Allow for discussions early in the process for: – adding new technologies and/or methodologies – leveraging existing physical and information assets to address business problems – considering how physical and information assets can be leveraged elsewhere Provide an early warning point for capacity needs in our shared infrastructure environment Ensure awareness and support from all operational units that will be involved with and/or impacted by this project After the Business Case Review: Consultants can be procured RFP will be reviewed and approved by OIT Detailed technical meetings should begin to sound out infrastructure and manpower needs. Business Case Review Logical SARPhysical SAR Implementation Review 3

This review will be performed in the Elaboration Phase of a project, where the project starts to take shape. In this phase, the project/initiative is defined in more detail and the architecture gets its basic form. It is here that discussions about how the project will/should fit into the infrastructure (network, storage, security, access needs) are confirmed. Coding has not yet begun. New Hardware and software have not been procured. The Logical SAR will: Ensure that capacity, resources, hardware and software needs are identified. Ensure that infrastructure requirements are determined. After the Logical SAR: Coding can begin Hardware and software can be procured Continue working with infrastructure and network areas to establish agreed upon architecture. Business Case Review Logical SARPhysical SAR Implementation Review 4

This review will be performed in the Construction Phase where the main focus goes to the development of components and other features of the system are being designed. This is the phase when the bulk of the coding will take place for application development projects. The Physical SAR will: Determine if project deadlines and programming and infrastructure requirements have been identified and met. After the Physical SAR: Finish the construction of the solution. Confirm that the appropriate Production environment is ready for hosting. Business Case Review Logical SARPhysical SAR Implementation Review 5

This is an ON-LINE review that assures that the project has met all the necessary requirements to move from the development phase to the production phase and confirms that all open Action Items from the preceding review processes have been successfully resolved. The Implementation Review will: Determine whether the project is ready for deployment Assure that the date for deployment, impact on other systems and related deployment activities have been assigned and agreed to After the Implementation Review: The solution can be deployed Business Case Review Logical SARPhysical SAR Implementation Review 6
