Question Answer Relationships Or QAR’s

What is QAR’s? It means that you understand what type of questions you are being asked, and where you should look for the answer.

Catagories of QAR’s QAR’s In the Book Right There Think and Search In my Head Author and You On my Own

In the Reading SSSSome questions can be answered by finding key words in the questions and the selection. YYYYou can underline key words or information to prove you have the right answer.

Right There in the Selection Some questions have answers that are found right there in the selection or book

IIIIt is usually very easy to find UUUUse key words from the questions to look back in the selection YYYYou can normally put your finger on the answer to the question is the selection.

Think and Search This means that you can find it in the reading, But You may have to put two and two together or use clues from the reading to find the answer.

Still, you can look for key words in the questions and the selection

In My Head TTTThese answers are not found using key words in the selection. YYYYou can’t underline the answer or put your finger on a key word YYYYou have to stop and THINK

Author and You Use your good reading detective skills Put clues or “information” together to figure out the best answer. Think about what you know, and what the author’s purpose for writing the selection is.

On My Own TTTThis means you have to think about what you already know, and use this to answer the question. TTTThe answer is not in the text TTTThink about your own experience
