College Visits If college visit occurs on a school day 3 days prior to visit, submit College Visitation Authorization Form to your counselor After your visit, provide note from the college to the ATTENDANCE office verifying your visit

Student Responsibilities (cont.) In the FALL: Complete applications online Send application fees Submit Transcript Release form Send SAT/ACT/AP Scores to each college you are applying to Naviance Make an appointment with your counselor

Athletes If you expect to be a Division I or Division II athlete you must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center Meet with your counselor to confirm you will meet the academic requirements

Tips Communicate with parents about post high school plans Use Naviance to research colleges and determine if school is within your academic range Go on college visits Keep in touch with your counselor Fill out your own applications Write your own college essay and proofread

Naviance To access Naviance, visit NHHS website  Guidance Department  Naviance Use Naviance to research colleges and create a list of Foundation, Target and Reach Colleges Compare GPA and standardized test scores to actual historical data from NHHS students who have applied in the past

Naviance What are you required to do? Check if the colleges you’re applying to accept applications via Naviance screen=scr_member_prefs_eddestinations Also note if college is a Common App school

If the college IS a participating Naviance college…. Complete the college’s application as required, prior to the deadline Submit a transcript release form to your counselor at least 10 days prior to application deadline Request teacher recommendations via Naviance. Only after discussing request in person with teacher

Request Teacher Recommendations here Click on ‘Colleges’  ‘Colleges I’m applying to’  ‘Add/Cancel Requests’ under Teacher Recommendations  Select Teacher(s) from drop down menu

If a college is NOT a participating Naviance college….. Complete the college’s application as required, prior to the deadline Give recommending teachers a stamped, addressed envelope for each college along with any teacher forms Submit a transcript release form to your counselor at least 10 days prior to application deadline Include an addressed envelope – no stamp, no return address Submit any secondary school reports to counselor

Transcript Release Form Available in guidance & online To Complete Form: Name and CORRECT address for Admissions Office Application deadline Signature of a parent/guardian if the student is under 18 Check appropriate boxes: Common App, Naviance Participate (not common app), Neither Recommending Teachers’ Initials Counselor Recommendation Requested (if needed) Early Decision, Early Action

Transcript Release Form Continued NHHS will submit six (6) free of charge Students will be billed in June $2.00 per extra transcript 10 business days are needed to process transcripts Be aware of school vacations and holidays and school deadlines.

Admission Types Early Decision Early Decision is binding Students can apply only to one school early decision If admitted student must attend Early Action Regulations vary by school Smaller pool of applicants Decision rendered sooner Regular Decision Established by individual college Rolling No deadline When application is received it is reviewed and a decision determined

Turning in forms… You must hand in all materials DIRECTLY to your counselor! Do not leave in mailbox!!!

Counselor Responsibilities Regardless of participation in Naviance, All colleges will receive: Transcript (when transcript release form is completed) Secondary School Report Form (if applicable) Recommendation Letter (if Junior Packet was completed) Midyear Reports (grades) will automatically be mailed to each college! Students should not hand in additional mid- year or final report forms
