Why is The Renaissance important for a study of US History? People became more aware and curious about the world around them (Crusades) A desire for more trade led explorers to search for new routes to Asia (Spain, Portugal, England) It led to the belief that common people should have representation in law-making bodies.

Why would European governments send people to the New World? Get natural resources (timber, furs, etc.) Get gold and silver to make more riches for the king Markets for manufactured goods Get rid of excess population

Why would people go to the New World on their own? Escape religious and political persecution Get natural resources for their own use and riches Own land (primogeniture in Europe) Convert Indians to Christianity
