Motivate Employees
Whenever you get a chance to praise an employee, make it public. A simple post-it slip or a print- out…. Let others see it.
Call an employee just to say ‘thank you; without discussing any other matter.
Send a card to the employee's spouse or family thanking them for their support.
Pass on helpful articles that could benefit employees and attach a note that says, "Saw this and thought of you."
Join in and help an employee who is under pressure. Ask what can be done and help complete the task side-by-side.
Have a picture taken of your entire staff (including you!), have it enlarged and hang it in a visible spot. Most people like to physically see themselves as part of a team.
If you see that an employee has some innovative thoughts or creative approach, arrange a meeting with your senior. This helps in establishing your credibility too.
Keep a note of dates (family members’ birthdays, anniversries) that are significant to your team members. Surprise them by asking them to leave a little early that day…
Let a high performer manage the team for a day. This shall bring in new ideas in the team and shall let people feel that they are contributing in a special way.
Create light-hearted awards that recognize something unique about each person like, ‘Best Screen-Saver’ or ‘Best Joke Teller’ and present them at a potluck lunch.
