PROCESS FRAMEWORK Lecture - 3

Topics covered PROCESS FRAMEWORK PROCESS MODELS DIFFERENCE

Common Process Framework Common process framework Framework activities work tasks work products milestones & deliverables QA checkpoints Umbrella Activities

Process Framework Activities Common Process Framework Activities – Framework activities - task sets – Umbrella activities

Framework Activities COMMUNICATION- involves communication & collaboration with customer for requirement gathering and other activities PLANNING- makes a plan for s/w engg. work MODELING- involves creation of models & design to achieve requirements CONSTRUCTION- combines code generation & testing DEPLOYMENT- delivery of product to the customer

Umbrella Activities SOFTWARE PROJECT MANAGEMENT-assess progress against project plan and maintain schedule RISK MANAGEMENT- assess risk involved SOFTWARE QUALITY ASSURANCE- ensure s/w quality FORMAL TECHNICAL REVIEWS- assess s/w work product to uncover errors

Umbrella Activities continue.. MEASUREMENT- define and collect progress, project & product measures SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT- manages effects of change REUSABILITY MANAGEMENT- achieve reusable components DOCUMENT PREPARATION AND PRODUCTION- create work products such as models, documents, logs, forms & lists

PROCESS MODEL DIFFER IN – Overall flow of activities and tasks, interdependencies of activities and tasks – The degree to which work tasks are defined within each framework – The degree to which work product are identified and required – The manner in which quality assurance activities are applied – The manner in which the project tracking & control activities are applied – The overall degree of detail & rigor with which the process is described – The degree to which the customer & other stakeholders are involved with project – The level of autonomy given to s/w project team – The degree to which team organization & roles are prescribed
