Basis for diagnosis WHO studies: – HIV and TB co-infection is common in endemic areas such as the Philippines. HIV increases the progression of TB. HIV-infected individuals are most likely to die of TB. History – Multiple sexual partners, risk factor for HIV – Chronic cough, Family history of Tuberculosis Clinical manifestations – Cervical lymphadenopathy – Chronic case of malnutrition and dehydration leading to electrolyte imbalance – Chronic anemia – Evidence of septic shock – Cardiorespiratory distress
Cause of death Immediate cause: Multi-organ dysfunction Intermediate cause: Septic Shock Underlying cause of death: HIV/TB
