How I Learned about God from my Parents (2)

When I was three years old, my family moved from Al-Fashir to Omdurman.

In Khartoum, the White Nile meets the Blue Nile and form the River Nile.

 The Blue Nile begins from Lake Tana in Ethiopia. It’s water looks brownish because it brings a lot of mud from the soil.  The White Nile begins from Lake Victoria in Uganda. It’s water looks much clearer than the Blue Nile.

 You can see the junction of waters of the Blue and White Niles when they meet in Khartoum.  The difference in color is very clear, (see next slide).  The water of the two rivers mix completely after a short distance.

 My memory from our home in Omdurman, is a banner hanging over one of the doorframes.  It is a white satin cloth about three feet in width and one foot high.  A verse from the Bible “Psalm 111:10” was written on it in Arabic.  My father wrote it. He was well known of his very elegant hand writing.  My mother sewed it with dark blue yarn to enhance my father’s writing.

 I discovered later how my parents honor God and His words.  This banner was not in the sitting room for the visitors to see, but it was inside the house for us to see every day.

 Deuteronomy 11:18-20  18Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  19Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  20Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,

Let us value God’s words, fix them in our hearts and teach them to our children?
