Georgia O’ Keeffe American artist; Modernist painter From the state of Wisconsin 1 st woman honored with her own exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

O’ Keeffe was originally inspired by nature during her childhood in rural Wisconsin. Shunning her artistic education in favor of expressing her emotions, O’ Keeffe enlarged flowers until they became abstract artforms whose sheer size commanded attention.

She became most famous for her paintings of flowers (or parts of flowers) and objects from the deserts of the American southwest.

Expressionistic way of painting:

Georgia’s paintings looked enlarged or zoomed in. This was her viewpoint; how she wanted to show objects – this viewpoint is what made her paintings unique.
