Hernando de Soto Born c1500-1542. He was a conquistador. He died on May 21st 1542,after crossing the Mississippi river, he was struck with fever.

Hernando’s Travels He sailed in North America. He was the first European to explore Florida, Southeastern America, and the Mississippi River. He also traveled West Indies, Panama, Nicaragua, and Honduras. He also made three voyages.

Facts! He explored to get wealthy. He explored Nicaragua with Francisco de Cordoba. They sank his corpse in the Mississippi river.

Effects of Exploration! The Europeans brought small pox, chicken pox, and measles. The Native Americans did not have the immunity to fight the Europeans diseases. Much of the Indians either fled the area, or died from contact with the Europeans. The exploration was not a success because the Europeans did not find any gold, prosperity, or colonies.
