Videotaped Interviews of Select 2004 Higher Education Conference Participants Dr. Jennifer Wilson Dr. Arthur Oyola-Yemaiel Emergency Management Program North Dakota State University

Purpose To create support material for higher education courses in emergency management Provide perspective of both emergency management academics and practitioners regarding the future of the field of emergency management

Methodology Solicited interviews with confirmed participants prior to the conference –based on their knowledge of emergency management and their participation in the development of the higher education strategy Requested interviews with additional participants on site Each interview was video taped

Methodology, cont. Five questions: 1.What is the future of emergency management? 2.What are the obstacles/challenges that emergency management graduates face upon entering the workforce? 3.What is the role of emergency management graduates in the 21st century? 4.What is the role of emergency management higher education degrees in the professionalization of the field? 5.How should emergency management degree programs transmit core competencies to future emergency managers?

Outcome Interviews lasted approximately minutes each Total of 25 interviews Three DVD products –Full interviews by person (raw data, 3.5 hrs) –Full interviews edited by question (3.5 hrs) –Select interviews edited by question (12 min)
