Presentation transcript:

EPS enables prescriptions to be sent electronically from the GP to the dispenser of the patient’s choice. It makes the prescribing and dispensing process easier and more convenient. Electronic Prescription Service

Prescriptions - the need for change 1.8 million paper prescriptions are issued every working day in England this figure is expected to rise by 5% each year about 70% of these prescriptions are for repeat medication

Here’s what happens to me. How do you get your medication?

“I get the bus to my surgery…

…to order my repeat prescription.”

“Then I get the bus…

..back home and wait.”

“I get the bus back to the surgery…

…to collect my repeat prescription.”

“I take my repeat prescription…

to the pharmacy and wait”

“They don’t have everything I need, so I get the bus…

..back home and wait.”

“Next day I get the bus…

…back to the pharmacy to get my remaining items”

“Finally, I get the bus…

...back home. And write a reminder on the calendar to do it all again next month!”

There must be a more efficient way? Patient Surgery staff Doctor Surgery staff Patient Pharmacy staff Pharmacist Payment agency Patient

With EPS there is… EPS lets your GP practice send your prescription electronically to the place you choose (nominate) to get your medication or appliance from – without the need for paper in some cases.

Convenient Choice SafeFlexible Less waiting

I nominated a pharmacy so that I can use EPS Here’s what happens now …

“My GP prescribes my medicine for six months.”

“Each month I call at my local pharmacy…

…where my medicines are waiting to be collected. Then I go…

...back home. And put a reminder on the calendar to nip along next month.”

Surgery Patient Dispenser Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) Payment Agency EPS…the easy way

Talk to someone at your pharmacy, dispensing appliance contractor or GP practice and ask them to add your nomination for you. Once your GP practice starts using EPS your prescriptions will be sent electronically. If you want to use EPS
