 To talk about a future action or event at the point of decission:  To make predictions about the future:  To make promises: I will come to the cinema with you tonight, I think. You will meet a tall, dark stranger. I’ ll buy you a car for your bithday. I’ll be there for you.

 To talk about intentions :  Future events and actions based on present evidence: What are you planing to do this summer? ¨We’re going to visit our friends in New Zealand¨ ¨They have an advantage of three goals, they’re going to win the match for sure¨

 To talk about plans and arrangements for the future A time reference often makes the future meaning clear. (tonight, tomorrow morning) What are you doing tonight? We’re meeting early tomorrow morning.

 Timetables and schedules  With future references in subordinate clauses after time conjunctions such as when, until, as soon as… ¨The plane leaves at 6.30 tomorrow morning ¨We’ll reply when we hear from you¨

 Be + infinitive is formal.  It is used in rules or instructions. It particulary common in news reports. Staff are not to use company telephones fo personal calls. The Prime Minister is to visit South America next month. It is used to talk about official plans.

 Focuses on an action or in progress at a specific time time in the future ¨This time next week, I’ll be enjoying my holidays in New York¨

 It looks forward to a future time and then looks back from a point. By the end of next yeal we ‘ll have finished the film.
