1  Understand Qur’an & Salah The Easy Way Lesson -1a 1

2 جَزَاكُمُ اللهُ خَيْرًا May Allah reward those Who made arrangements to get it delivered or informed you about it.

3 مُبَارَ ك Congratulations to you!

If we fail to plan, we plan to fail. Therefore,  First, UNDERSTAND the Task.  Next, make the PLAN.  Then, ASK Allah make the task easy.  And, START the Task. (If you walk towards Him, Allah will come to you running!!) - Hadeeth

For Understanding Al- Qur'an First get to know…  How many words are there?  How fast can the human brain learn new words?  How many days will it take?

In the MUSHAF from Madinah, (or the one used by those who memorize the Qur’an)  Pages in the Mus-haf 600  Lines per page 15  Words per Line 9  Total Words in every page 130  Total Words (130 x 600) 78,000 Approximately

In the MUSHAF from Madinah, (or the one used by those who memorize the Qur’an)  Non-repeated Words 17,000  Unique words (after learning صرف ) 4,500  Root words 1,850 On an average, each root word occurs in 2 to 3 derived word forms. For example, عَلِمَ، عَلَّمَ، عَلاَّم ApproximatelyApproximatelyApproximatelyApproximately

Easy to Learn!  Allah says, “Verily We have made Al-Qur'an EASY to understand and remember”  So the suggestion that “Al-Qur'an is difficult” is from shaitan! Even in your thoughts, NEVER agree with it and NEVER say it.  Do we want to contradict what Allah says in the Qur’an? (May Allah forgive us!)

Easy to Learn!  Allah has made His Al-Qur'an easy for us in many wonderful ways. For example,…  The words of Surah Fatihah are repeated … 7500 times in Al-Qur'an!

Easy to Learn: Step 1  Words (and their derivatives) from Salaah – the Surah Fatiha, 6 often used small surahs, the usual dhikr words and 4 usual du’aas are found 40,000 times in the Qur’aan.  This means 50% of the words… or every 2 nd word in the Qur’aan is from DAILY Salaah!  That is the content of our Short Course-1

Easy to Learn: Step 2  Additional Recitations - 5 Last Surahs - Selections from the Qur’an - Supplications Learnt Basic Words (from 2 courses): 250 Occurrences in Al-Qur'an: 55,000  That is the content of our Short Course -2

After the 2 Short Courses … Unfamiliar/New words found in Al-Qur'an  Juz’/ Paarah 1 : 20 per page  Juz’ / Paarah 2 to 5 : 12 per page  Juz’ / Paarah 6 to 28 : 6 per page  Juz’ / Paarah 29 to 30 : 12 per page

Unfamiliar or New words per page in Al-Qur'an after the 2 Short Courses

Repetition / Reinforcement Opportunity on Every Page of Al-Qur'an!  New Words per page : 20  TOTAL words per page : 130  Repeated words : 110 Therefore, each page ensure enough revision of the words that have learnt earlier!!!

Human Brain Capacity???  New Words memorizable per Day : 15  The Secret of this Capacity : Repetition Repetition ensures that the learnt words get stored in the PERMANENT MEMORY of the brain

If you want to learn Al-Qur'an, the Decision is YOURS!  For daily 15 Minutes in the morning, read Surah and its Tafseer  After that, for JUST 1 Minute each at the following times: - Before starting your work in the morning session - Before starting your work in the afternoon session - In the evening  Alternatively, Before OR after every Salaah

The Problem is NOT Time or Effort, It is just your Attitude, your Thought!  Make it a Part of your Daily Routine Life.  Like you eat 3 times and drink water 5-6 times.  When you want to memorize the meaning of new words, follow the Sunnah of Allah (for memorizing… because that is the way He designed the brain).  For this, adopt 2 main aids: –Vocabulary sheets & Posters –Friends (to help you and team up with)

Just 200 hours!  To understand Al-Qur’an, you need 200 Hours! (20 hours for the 2 short courses + 6 hours for each of the 30 Juz’u/Paarah)  Start A.S.A.P. (As Soon As Possible)  When you have any way decided to learn, Why Delay?

Du’aa May Allah (Sub-hanahu wa Ta-’aalah) help us to:  Read Al-Qur'an  Understand Al-Qur'an  Reflect/Contemplate upon Al-Qur'an  Implement / Act upon Al-Qur'an  Spread the learning and the message of Al- Qur'an (Aameen!)

Objectives of the Short Course To make the understanding of the Qur’an easy To pray Salah effectively Encourage you to recite Qur’an again and again with understanding Help in interacting with the Qur’an (to bring it into our lives) To generate the team spirit

Qur’an sample page – 3 Red color shows the words covered in this course (almost 50%)

27 Understanding Qur’an vs. Learning Arabic Language 3 Major Differences in our approach

28 No. 1: Smooth Start   Start from Salah (Why use any other text, for Qur’an)…   If I want to teach you French and if I know that you speak something in French for 1 hour, I will say: Learn that first!   A common sense approach   Valid for every Muslim man, woman, old, and young, and even for a child …

No. 2: Focus on Listening and Reading Language Learning Understanding Qur’an ReceptionListening  Reading  ProductionSpeaking  - X - Writing  - X -

30   More focus on Vocabulary (just the way a child learns…)   Less focus on grammar; otherwise if we teach the way shown below, people will run away! No. 3: More Focus on Vocabulary غائب، جمع، مذكر، مهموز، باب إفعال فعل مضارع مرفوع بثبوت النون لأنه من الأفعال الخمسة، والواو ضمير متصل في محل رفع فاعل يُؤمِنُو ن

31 Rules of the Short Course

32 Rules …  We will learn with love, smiles, and relaxation.  This is a thoroughly interactive short course therefore listen attentively, and participate continuously.  Listen interactively, with your HEART and have faith that Allah will teach you. Don’t doubt about yourself. ( الرحمن علم القرآن )

33 State of mind What made you come here? To See the Teacher? To see the class? For you only ( What am I learning)

34 Approach With out attentiveness With doubt (whether we can learn or not?) Infact with a firm belief that Allah the high will make it easy for us to learn. (الرحمن علم القرآن)

35 Rules … Remember the golden rule:  I listen, I forget.  I see, I remember.  I practice, I learn (HW too).  I teach, I master (more later)

36 Repetition of words in Qur’an كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ 261 * Repetition in Qur’an Noun (singular + plural forms); Verb (all forms)

After the Break, we will study: Grammar & Learning tips
