Clearing the hurdles

E-portfolio tips Minimum means minimum! You need to be making 4 entries a week to achieve the minimum of 3 quality entries Don’t forget your PDP (use your TISA form). PSQs require 40 respondents, so they take time! CBDs,COTs etc all have to be achieved prior to May and December Get your Trainer to do RCA using your e-portfolio clinical entries Check your DOPS, OOHs and CPR – are they valid?

Audit/Projects & SEA & NOE Domains should be populated! Discuss them with your Trainer Complete at least 1 quality audit (2 cycles) and 6 SEA during the ST3 year See the Pennine website for ideas and advice

Life as a ST3 GPST?

Surgeries Come in 15 minutes early to review the records Start on time! Organise your workspace Encourage your trainer to do some sit and swap surgeries Don’t forget that ‘sitting in’ should occur occasionally throughout ST3 not just at induction Have realistic expectations about your knowledge, skills and performance

Tips for surviving on call Working in pairs identify ways in which you can make GP on call more bearable

Home Visits You can not avoid them Max 3 visits, usually 1 to 2 Prior to Tuesday HDR 1 visit is the norm Doctor’s bag, Tom Tom and mobile phone AND an A-Z and list of telephone numbers for when IT fails!

Tutorials & debriefs & OOH hours weekly of protected tutorial time Scheduled post surgery debriefs You need to have completed at least 6 hours OOH session per month of GP training (14 to 18 for most GPSTs) The must include a variety of triage, home visit and surgery sessions

Designing your road map

Working in small groups Draw your time line for the ST3 year detailing the approximate dates of OOH sessions, courses, exams, Educational Supervision, ARCP panel, CCT application, job applications and other deadlines etc

PDP Working in Pairs reflect on your learning needs for ST3 and write four PDP entries.
