You will see this site: Legend Scatter Plot Map

THE LEGEND: Controlling Variables, Color and Appearance of the Map

Navigating the Legend The Legend controls the map display.

Variable Selector Click here to change the variable being displayed.

Variable Selector The column on the left lists all the categories to choose from, including crime, health factors, and income.

Variable Selector The column on the right lists the specific variables, including population age 25 or older, death rate, or types of illnesses.

THE MAP: Selecting and Presenting Data

Map Basics The scale bar allows you to zoom in or out. The hand tool allows you to pan and drag the map to your desired picture. The arrow tool allows you to select specific counties or groups of counties.

Selecting on the Map Using the arrow tool, click and drag to highlight specific counties.

THE SCATTER PLOT: Graphically Presenting Data

Know Your Scatter Plot The Scatter Plot is a useful representation of the data portrayed on the map. It consists of an X- and Y- axis, with each dot representing a county on the map. The “line of best fit,” or slope, illustrates the relationship between the two variables. Slope=11.9 means that with 1 pt increase in x, there is an 11.9 pt increase in y. The intercept represents the value of Y when X=0.

Selecting on the Scatter Plot Much like clicking and dragging on the legend, you can click and drag on the scatter plot to select specific counties.

Customize Your Scatter Plot Double-click on the variable names to access the attribute selector. This will allow you to change the X- and Y-axis variables.

Customize Your Scatter Plot Just like the Data Table, you can choose variable categories on the left column and specific variables on the right.

DATA TABLE: Enhancing the Data’s Effectiveness

Data Table This icon at the bottom of the page is housing the Data Table. This is another useful tool for data selection.

Data Table This table lists all 159 counties. You can highlight individual or multiple counties by using +Shift or +Ctrl.

Customize Your Scatter Plot Click here to add more columns full of data.

Customize Your Scatter Plot The Open selector button will allow you to access the list of variable categories to add to the chart. Select the categories you wish to display.

Customize Your Scatter Plot The data table is now populated with the desired values. You can sort highest to lowest by clicking on the top headers.
