How do I renew my certificate? See Christine Zeller at School Board Office Phone number Fees must be paid by check or money order Made payable to: Louisiana Department of Education SJP Human Resources Department will mail for you with necessary paperwork signed by you

Where do I get CLU information from? Continuing Learning Units are the responsibility of the teacher to track All St. James Parish $200 day Staff Development Days CLU’s are tracked at the district level in the district database Teachers can add any other CLU information into the database following an outlined process

What counts for CLU’s? Faculty study groups Educational/Academic conference attendance District training sessions other than $200 staff development days School level professional development

How do I prove attendance? Enter activity online in the database Print form and attach a copy of the agenda and sign in as proof of attendance Send completed form and documentation to: Carol Webre, District Office After the CLU activity is approved, the district will go into the database and add that activity to your CLU’s

How do I enter CLU’s into the database? It is the teacher’s responsibility to enter all other CLU’s into the district database Instructions: Click hereClick here For assistance with the CLU database – Contact : Sean Roussel – NOTE: The online database can only be utilized at school (within the district network) and can only be completed on a Windows computer.

Highly Qualified – Why? Definition – If you teach core academic subjects in a program supported with Title I funds you must be highly qualified upon initial employment. If you teach core academic subjects and you are not a new teacher, you must be highly qualified

How do I become Highly Qualified? You can take and pass the PRAXIS exam(s) required for the core academic subject area(s) for which you are seeking to become highly qualified; You can complete requirements of new, streamlined add-on (endorsement) certification(s) in the area(s) for which you are seeking to become highly qualified;

Can CLU’s count for HQ and License renewal? Yes, the CLUs earned for purposes of meeting the Highly Qualified definition can be applied toward the 150 CLUs re-licensure requirement. However, the converse is not necessarily true - not all CLUs earned for purposes of re-licensure would necessarily meet the content-specific nature of CLUs required for highly qualified.

What happens if I don’t get HQ? The district is responsible for sending letters to parents of students being taught by a non HQ teacher The district is judged on the percentage of teachers who are highly qualified and certified. The district has the responsibility to assure that each child is taught by a highly qualified and certified teacher. A teacher could be released if he/she did not attempt to become HQ.
