What is a coil gun? A projectile accelerator Electromagnet coils form a linear motor There may be a series of coils, switched on an off in sequence

Coil Gun v. Rail gun There is a distinction, duh Unlike coil guns, rail guns pass current through the projectile by way of sliding contacts

Construction Solenoid Ferromagnetic object (projectile) A large current Current creates a magnetic field, which pulls the projectile to the center of the coil Single stage Multi Stage
